may is older americans month
Established in 1963 by President John F. Kennedy, this observance has since been a way to honor the vitality and accomplishments of older Americans.
The theme for 2024 is Powered by Connection, which looks at how your relationships and personal connections have an impact on your health and well-being.
Join us in exploring how these connections and relationships support your independence and aging in place rather than moving into a care facility.
As someone who has Medicare, your health and well-being are of great importance. We encourage you to take advantage of the resources and support available to you through Medicare. These resources help to ensure that you have the care and assistance you need to thrive in every aspect of your life.

These websites give you suggestions to help you celebrate Older Americans Month by providing resources and information.
Here are a few:
Medicare.gov: The official Medicare website provides information about staying healthy and active. An easy and important way to stay healthy is to use disease prevention and early detection services. They can help you find health problems early, which is when treatment usually works best. Talk with your doctor to find out what tests or other services you may need, and how often you should get them. If you have Medicare Part B, you get many preventive services at no cost to you. National Council on Aging: Staying healthy and financially secure as you age can be a challenge. Get the information and tools you need to manage your money, maintain your health, and improve your life.
Centers for Disease Control and Prevention: People with disabilities need health care and health programs for the same reasons anyone else does—to stay well, active, and a part of the community. Being healthy means the same thing for all of us—getting and staying well so we can lead full, active lives. That means having the tools and information to make healthy choices and knowing how to prevent illness.
U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, Office of Disease Prevention and Health Promotion: Physical activity is especially important as you get older. Staying active can help.
Local senior centers or Area Agencies on Aging (AAA): Many local senior centers and AAAs have events and activities in honor of Older Americans Month. Check the websites for these organizations or contact them directly to learn about what's happening in your area.
